7 Tips to Prepare for Your Newborn Photography Session

Welcoming a new life is extraordinary — and choosing to capture these first days is a beautiful gift to your family. Your newborn photography session will be carefully customized to create timeless, beautiful images you and your family will treasure forever.

Below are a few helpful tips to help you prepare and make the experience as relaxed and enjoyable as possible.

#1 - Book Your Newborn Photography Session Early

I recommend booking your session during your second trimester to secure a spot on my calendar.

I schedule a limited number of sessions each month to allow flexibility around your baby's arrival. Once your little one is here, we’ll finalize the session date together.

#2 - Keep Baby Awake Before the Session

A sleepy newborn photographs beautifully. If possible, try to keep your baby awake for about an hour or two before your session. Giving them a bath, a little extra playtime, or some gentle interaction helps encourage a longer, restful sleep once you arrive.

#3 - Feed Baby Right Before Your Newborn Photography Session

A full tummy helps create a happy, sleepy baby. Please plan to feed your little one right before you leave home or once you arrive at the studio.

If you are bottle-feeding, bring extra bottles and anything else your baby might need to stay content and comfortable.

#4 - Dress Baby in Loose, Easy-to-Remove Clothing

When dressing your baby, choose something simple like a loose sleeper or a zip-up onesie. Avoid anything that must be pulled over the head. This makes it easier to transition into posing without disturbing your baby’s peaceful sleep.

#5 - Bring a Few Sentimental Items (Optional)

I have a full collection of luxury wraps, knits, props, and accessories available for your session. However, you’re always welcome to bring something personal if you’d like — such as a special family blanket, a tiny stuffed animal, or another keepsake that holds meaning for you.

#6 - Relax and Enjoy the Experience

My studio is warm, cozy, and designed with your comfort in mind. I encourage you to relax, sit back, and enjoy the experience while I gently and safely pose your newborn.

If you want to bring a book, some snacks, or even take a little nap, you are more than welcome. Your baby's safety, comfort, and happiness are always my top priorities during every newborn photography session.

#7 - Every Baby Leads the Way

Each baby is unique, and I always follow their natural rhythms. Some babies may need extra time to settle, and that’s completely normal.

I’ll move at your baby's pace to ensure a peaceful, beautiful experience for everyone involved during the newborn photography session.
